Steve & Lenna: Our story
Steve & Lenna met through their mutual friend Garth when they were teenagers, just 15 and 16 years old. Steven admits he had a crush on Lenna when he first met her, but didn’t think he was her type & never let on.
They were married 33 years later! Did Steve & Lenna have a long courtship? No. Do they think fate had a part in reconnecting them in 2004? Yes!
This story began in 1971, when Steve, Garth & their friend John all went to the same High School. That summer, Lenna & Garth met at summer camp where they dated briefly. Garth introduced Lenna to Steve and later to his friend John. Lenna and John spent 3 years together before they were married in 1978.
Lenna's Boyfriends…
This photo of Steve, Garth & John was taken in 1980. When it resurfaced (2004) Garth jokingly called it ‘Lenna's Boyfriends.’ Why? Because in 2004 Steve & Lenna were engaged, she had been married to John and Garth & Lenna dated when they were teenagers. We still laugh about it!
Steve, Garth, Lenna & John rented a house together in 1980, but John & Lenna moved out to start their own family. They kept in touch with Steve & Garth, who often came by to see them and their 2 kids.
Fast forward to 2004. John & Lenna’s 26 year marriage fell apart when John had an affair. They separated and divorce was inevitable. Around the same time, Lenna talked to Garth and learned that Steven was divorced. She was surprised to learn this and decided to call him at work. Steve had always been a good friend & easy to talk to. She hoped he might have advice for her on getting divorced.
Steve was totally unprepared for Lenna’s call. He didn’t know that she & John had separated, it had been 5 years since they last talked. He jumped at the chance to rekindle their friendship and they started emailing each other the same day. A few days later they met for dinner, caught up on the last 5 years… and continued to email, call each other and meet to walk their dogs. They soon made plans to drive to NY and see their friend Garth - and tell him this was all his fault!
As they spent together, Lenna found she was having romantic feelings for Steve. This was a surprise to her because she’d never felt that way about him before. The next 3 weeks consisted of spending even more time together and writing over 300 emails. They were falling in love! Steven attempted to slow things down, thinking about Lenna and her recent separation. The truth was, they knew their feelings for each other were true and after 33 years of knowing each other, they felt they were meant to be together.
So they decided to get married when Lenna's divorce was final. Steve proposed to Lenna by saying, “You KNOW we’re going to get married, don’t you?” :0)
On June 11, 2024 - Steve & Lenna celebrated 19 years of marriage ♥

My wedding dress reflected our moon & star theme.. The moon was prominent during our courtship and we thanked our lucky stars we were a couple!
What If?
A collage I made for Steven soon after I called him. Looking back now, the words “What if?” had much greater meaning than we knew at the time.
