Image resist gel print mail art exchange

“We love Mail Art” is a small group that includes myself, Jo Urbani & Julie Welsh. Since 2013 the three of us have exchanged art on theme and/or a technique a few times a year. We have placed an emphasis on Mail Art; view some examples by clicking on that link. Mail art is a lot of fun and our exchange is not high pressure; it’s a marriage of art & friendship. Our most recent exchange was a 2-part collaborative effort. First we all tried a technique on the Gelli Plate: magazine resist image transfers. Then we chose a few of our image resist prints and sent them to everyone in our group. Once the prints were received, we took them and made something (artist’s choice) to send back to each participant. When I received Jo & Julie’s prints, it took me a bit of time to decide what to do because I didn’t want to cut their prints up!

From Jo, I received amazing mail art and these yummy magazine resist image transfer prints:

Take a look below at what I received from Julie; a gorgeous envelope with these 3 cool prints inside:

I sent my own image resist prints off to them in the mail art envelopes below:

We have a lot of fun with our small group! I have so much art to share from this exchange that I created a new page on my website. There’s a gallery of photos showing what I did for Jo and Julie. I made three journals filled with the resist prints that we shared. I also made a video about how I made the journals, plus I share a little bit about our art exchanges over the years. Please visit the Image Resist Gel Print Journal page to view the photos & video.

Jo sent me a journal page created from one of my prints that she added her art to. The print I sent her is below (left) and to the right of it is how she added to it. Our cat Lightning hangs out in my studio and he was checking it out. I put Jo’s page in the image resist journal I made for myself. I love how she added “Dare to be Different” to the page. Jo’s envelope is truly fab!

Julie made some very cool Artist Trading Coins (new to me) inside of an origami folded wallet created from a map. Then she placed them all inside a groovy Gel Print envelope! Thanks so much, Jewels!

How lucky am I? Very lucky! Creatively yours, Lenna
