52 weeks of creativity -photos, stitching & drawing

Jan 7 -I’m quite happy. This idea that just came to me, to concentrate on being creative on a weekly basis, turned out to be a good one! I liked gathering photos of what I did creatively for the entire week into a folder, much better than keeping track of 365 creative things, which felt larger in scope. I was correct in my thinking, that doing it this way felt a little looser, less intense, but still active. And, mapping out what I wanted to accomplish in advance made it easy to kind of check in and see if I was hitting the mark.

I said, “I intend to draw something every week”. Well, I kept that in mind, since I promised that to myself and shared it with you. Now, what I did was nothing mind shattering, but I was happy I did do some drawing!

Steve helped me with adding the color on the first drawing. He has a program he uses to add colors to his cartoons. I was grateful! If I continue drawing a lot, I imagine I will download the program myself.

I also stated, “I intend to take photographs every week”. Guess what? I did! And I even returned to posting on my blipfoto photo journal. This was really something, because I had not posted there for 9 months! Here are some of the photos I took….

Next on my list of intentions was, “I intend to sew something every week. Any/or All: Finish Dallas’ quilt, continue ‘Stitch meditations’, and last but not least - create/sew an article of clothing from a pattern! “. Well, I have not gotten back to Dallas’ quilt yet, but I will. Being my first quilt, I often find myself struggling to simply start working on it. It is not familiar territory to me, although I have noticed when I do work on it, I do just fine. I am setting my sights on next week, for working on the quilt. I must say I am in a groove with the “Stitch Meditations” though. I was really inspired to create 4”x 4” stitched fabric pieces after reading Liz Kettle’s article in Quilting Arts -wow! Her website is HERE. See below for what I sewed this past week.

My last weekly intention for this first of 52 weeks was, “I intend to do at least one of the following mixed media art things every week: collage, work in altered books, do art journaling, play with paint, paper, printing and stamping.”. Hmmm. Sorry to say, I did not get there this week. Next week! :o)

All in all, this felt really good to me. Perhaps I just needed a different approach after 2 years of working on a 365 project. Those were 2 good years and I got a lot done, don’t get me wrong. But this feels better to me at this point, more focused on concentrating on my goals and what I want to do. Not worrying about the numbers of pieces too much! I am truly writing these posts for myself to as a check in to my new plan for keeping creativity flowing, but I hope you enjoy! Thanks so much for stopping by.
