Nature Printed Gelli Art Journal
I took an awesome class at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida, on November 26, 2019. The class was taught by one of my favorite teachers, JoAnn Migliore Campisi. She is a member of the Nature Printing Society and has been printing and teaching for years! I’ve been to a few of her previous classes at Selby Gardens where she taught us how to successfully nature print with a Gelli plate, but I wanted to learn more. In this class the students to created nature prints and then used the prints into pages to create their very own art journal. We brought our own gelli plates, paint & brayers, and used plant materials gathered at Selby Gardens for the class. JoAnn is well organized, first presented what we would be doing and demonstrated the techniques. Then off we went!
We had time to make lots of pages for the journal in the morning session. I printed 26 inside pages & a cover, then took a break for lunch and walked through the expansive gardens! In the afternoon we put our journals together. Students could include as many pages as they wanted to. The video below shows some of the pages I made and the completed art journal . . . This was very satisfying project to make. I adore nature printing and think gelli printing is a fun way to experiment with it. Thank you again, JoAnn! I look forward to another class with you in the future at Selby Gardens. ❤
